15 popular Cartoon characters that are banned in China

Cartoon characters that are banned in China, thus not to be discussed as well:


1. Winnie the Pooh - The stout, yellow bear was used in memes to mock Chinese President Xi Jinping.



2. SpongeBob SquarePants, Scooby-Doo, Mickey Mouse, and Pokemon - Was banned on all children’s channels in the prime time viewing hours between 5pm and 8pm to promote China’s domestic cartoon industry instead.





3. Peppa Pig  - Has been blocked from an online video channel in China after becoming associated with a gangster subculture. Also, some Chinese have turned Peppa Pig into a symbol of “shehuiren,” which means “black society” described as “organized crime or society of big brother.”



4.Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Bojack Horseman - Banned because of domestic violence, encourage juvenile delinquency, glorify violence and include sexual content



5. Despicable Me 2 - the reason the movie is not screening in China, is that they believe it won’t perform well over there. 



6. Detective Conan - Because of Violence, and Crime solving. (Chinese mocked the criticism online by arguing that "if Conan teaches kids how to commit crimes, surely it can teach idiots how to crack a case, so stop giving ideas!")



7.  Doraemon - They say that it can subvert the young people of modern China, and it became the object of a similar hate campaign called as “The cutting edge of a cultural invasion" of China with the political significance that allows Japan to betray history and while Chinese people are kissing the cheeks of the fat blue cat.



8. Sailor Moon, One Piece, and Naruto -  Just the same as Detective Conan, these cartoons and Manga have been removed and banned because of being too vulgar and having too much violence.
